The school is located in Pyaw Bwe Township, Madalay Division, in the Central Arid Zone. This is an area that is severely arid and seems to have limited annual rainfall. The school was built for the children by the villagers with their own money, but they were few trees on the site. After leaning of OISCA’s activities at other schools, the principal consulted with the OISCA staff, and in 2021, the Children’s Forest Program started.

In the first activity, parents were invited to come and OISCA staff explained the significance of the activity and how to plant and maintain seedlings. After discussions with the school, it was decided that 20 seedlings would be planted around the school building for the first year, taking safety and climate conditions into consideration and the remaining 112 seedlings would be planted by each family. The children are also provided with fertilizers and stationery, and are given homework to record the growth of the seedlings they have planted and continue to manage them responsibly. When the situation settle down in the future, we would like to plant more seedlings at school and also focus on environmental education, such as garbage separation.

Children record the growth and maintenance of the trees through drawings and diaries If they have any problems, OISCA staff provide advice.
